Run The Maine’s gift to local rehabilitation centre
All those feet big and small pounding the Botanical Gardens for last year’s Run The Maine have opened up greater treatment possibilities at Castlemaine Health.
Last year’s event raised the impressive total of $13,500. Since its inception, Run The Maine has raised over $80,000 to improve the community’s health and wellbeing. Much of this has been donated to Castlemaine Health.
The 2017 funds were used to purchase and upgrade equipment in Castlemaine Health’s Community Rehabilitation Centre (CRC). The CRC offers a range of allied health services, individual treatment and specialist rehabilitation programs.
Libby Mayes, director of the much-loved event which will celebrate its 10th year this year, visited the CRC to try out the equipment out.
Libby said: “It’s great to see the new equipment set up in the CRC. When you chat with the staff and see their clients using the equipment, you can really understand what a difference we’re making to people’s day-to-day lives with this event.”
Kerryn James, CRC Manager, said the equipment expands the treatment and assessment options that can now be offered to clients.
“The funds from Run The Maine have enabled us to update ageing equipment and introduce new possibilities for all types of clients. We’re so grateful to Libby and her team, and to everyone who took part.”
Three new pieces of equipment are now in place. The Pilates-style Trapeze Table helps with strengthening and assistance of movement. The new Leg Press strengthens legs after injury, surgery, or weakness.
The Continence Service, a confidential, self-referral service available to anyone in the Mount Alexander Shire, also welcomed a new piece of equipment. The Uroflow delivers important information about bladder function that can then be sent on to GPs and specialists.
Now in its 10th year, Run The Maine is looking for new committee members to steer the event into the future. If you’d like to be part of it, call Libby Mayes on 0439 653 389. Online registration for this year’s Run The Maine will open soon.
