Dhelkaya Health Board Directors
The Department of Health is pleased to invite applications for part time board director positions of Dhelkaya Health, with terms of office commencing from 1 July 2023.
Dhelkaya Health was created on 1 March 2022, the result of an amalgamation with Maldon Hospital and previous amalgamation with CHIRP Community Health.
Dhelkaya Health delivers a range of health services to people living in and around the Shire of Mount Alexander including:
- Residential Aged Care services
- Urgent Care Centre
- Acute Services
- Maternity and Subacute services
- Community Services, including district nursing, transport, social support, health promotion, social support and pathology
- Allied health and specialist services through its Community Rehabilitation Centre.
Dhelkaya Health also delivers nursing and palliative care services to people in their homes and offers social support and activity programs in the community. The service hosts medical and allied health students and provides work experience placements and is a registered provider for the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
The functions of the board of a public hospital include developing statements of priorities and strategic plans for the operation of the public hospital, monitoring compliance, overseeing financial and business plans, strategies and budgets to ensure the accountable and efficient provision of health care and the long term viability of the public hospital.
The Board is accountable to the Minister of the day for the delivery of services to a high quality, safe and in a cost-effective way. Directors are required to attend a monthly board meeting of approximately 1-2 hours duration. The board of Dhelkaya Health meet on the fourth Thursday of each month at 5.30pm. Directors are also involved in various board subcommittees which include:
- Governance and Remuneration Committee
- Audit and Risk Management Committee
- Finance and Infrastructure Committee
- Clinical Governance, Quality and Safety Committee
- Community Consultative Committees
About the role
These positions provide an exciting opportunity for members of the Victorian public with relevant experience and capabilities to contribute to the strategic leadership of public health care delivery to the community.
The role of the board includes:
- setting the vision, strategy and direction of the organisation, in line with government priorities
- having ultimate accountability for the delivery of safe and quality care, including cultural safety
- leadership succession planning and performance management of the Chief Executive Officer
- overall oversight of the performance and delivery of key policy priorities
- ensuring the ongoing financial viability of the organisation.
